Conservative Alan Keyes Visits Utah

"Secure the border"

(KCPW News) Conservative politician Alan Keyes was in town yesterday calling for Congress to get a grasp on the quote "uncontrollable flow of immigrants streaming through our southern borders."

"Laws don't mean anything. Rules don't mean anything. Policies don't mean anything if you can't control who's coming across the border," said Keyes.

"It doesn't matter if we have the TSA checking everbody at our airports. We've got our back door open so wide that you could drive a fleet of trucks through it. And we've got to close it."

Keyes says the U.S. must secure its borders before Congress can make any signifanct changes to immigration policy. However, he was vague on details, saying only that he advocates the use of technology and continued patrols by volunteer Minutemen:

"Like the folks in Great Britain. They had civilian spotters along the coast during the Second World War. When they saw something, they reported back to the professional forces. That's the kind of thing we can do as a people to lend a hand in the defense of our country."

Keyes' visit to Utah was sponsored by a national anti-immigration organization. He spent several hours in Provo where the race for the 3rd Congressional District is gaining national attention over immigration issues. Keyes refused to endorse either candidate.
