"Future of the club in Utah in serious jeopardy"

(KCPW News) Real Salt Lake Owner Dave Checketts has issued a written statement reacting to the Salt Lake County Council's rejection of his team's stadium proposal for Sandy City. Checketts says the quote "puts the future of the club in Utah in serious jeopardy."

Checketts says the team's owners are willing to invest in excess of $500 million in private capital to the success of Real Salt Lake and its stadium. But, he reiterates that construction of the venue would require some public money for infrastructure.

The statement also criticizes County Mayor Peter Corroon for claiming to support the team's stadium quest during conversation, but publicly rejecting any offers. Checketts says Corroon and council members who voted against the Sandy proposal quote "demonstrated a total disregard for the future of our community and our state." He continues quote "they have only stood in the way of what would be one of the largest private capital investments ever made in state history."

If he has $500 mil for investing, and the public bond would only be $35 mil, what is the big need for public money? Pro sports owners in Clevend Ohio recently were sore losers like Checkett over the public's refusal to give corporate welfare. Eventually Cleveland residents got a pro team, and stadium even without public funding! Also, the public money would have been used to help build yet another convention center. Dont we have enough of those?
