Courting Hispanic Chamber Convention

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Salt Lake will have to fight a general perception that it lacks diversity if it hopes to beat Denver and Albuquerque to be the site of the 2009 U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce convention.

"We're the third fastest emerging market as far as Hispanic population and we'd like to show that by hosting this conference here," says Carlos Linares, executive director of the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Linares estimates there are 5,800 Hispanic owned businesses in Utah, but admits that growth in that sector is not keeping pace with growth in the state's Hispanic population overall. The convention is projected to draw about six-thousand people.
