First Night Bumped to 2nd Tier

(KCPW News) Organizers of the First Night New Year's Eve event in Salt Lake City have found the once-a-year nature of their endeavor a disadvantage in their quest for county funds. The Salt Lake County Council bumped First Night from the list of top-tier events to receive Zoo Arts and Parks Funding.Still, Downtown Alliance director Bob Farrington says First Night- which costs about $400,000 to produce - will probably still get the same amount of ZAP money as it has in previous years. That's approximately $70,000.
Next year, Farrington says the Downtown Alliance will likely roll its First Night money request into a larger package of year-round events like the Arts and Crafts Market and summer jazz concerts. Members of the County Council suggest a year-round presence might merit more money.
