Huntsman Takes Harley to Sturgis

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Governor Jon Huntsman is taking his Harley to South Dakota this weekend for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He'll join Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne for a fundraising ride through the Black Hills. Huntsman is an avid motorcyclist, and spoke recently of a trip he took through Southern Utah on two wheels:

"The other day I had a great chance to visit several rural counties by motorcycle," says Huntsman. "With blue skies and the wind at my face, sailing down the Highway 12, I headed through Grand Staircase National Monument. Utah is blessed with some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, and I can assure you it looks particularly breathtaking from the seat of a Harley Davidson."

Huntsman will spend Sunday and Monday in South Dakota.

I think Gov. Huntsman is doing a lot of good for this state, so I hope he has a safe ride this weekend at Sturgis. Having been, I know he's going to have a good time.

That said, I'm saddened to read that Gov. Huntsman chooses to ride without a helmet. It's selfish & irresponsible. Clearly, Gov. Huntsman has never been an eye-witness to a motorcycle accident when helmets are not worn. In my case, it was the difference between walking away & a dance with death.

We need to get helmet laws changed in this state. Without the support of the executive branch, this is going to be an uphill battle.

Where does it say that he doesn't wear a helmet? It only says "wind at my face". It is entirely possible to feel the wind on your face with a full-face helmet with the visor up.
