Emergency Mosquito Spraying Over The Salt Lake Valley

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nights
A booming mosquito population coupled with a large number of birds testing positive for West Nile Virus is prompting Salt Lake Valley mosquito control groups to order up extra mosquito spraying this weekend. Sam Dickson, Manager of the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District says warm temperatures in June and July is fueling a population boom among mosquitoes that carry the virus. The spraying will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday night over the Jordan River corridor, and on marsh areas around Magna and the Salt Lake Airport. The emergency spraying will take place over areas with homes. Dickson says the pesticide poses a low safety risk to humans, but some people may want to avoid exposure by staying indoors and closing windows and turning off air conditioners when spraying is taking place.
