Sandy Official is Confident Promises Made in "Good Faith"

(KCPW News) Real Salt Lake broke ground on its new stadium in Sandy before having all the formal approvals in place. But Sandy City Economic Development officer Randy Sant says city, county and team officials all made good-faith promises to work out the details. He expects the deal to take two to three more weeks to finalize.

It will give the team $55 million in public subsidies to build the stadium. The Salt Lake County Council has scheduled an emergency meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m. to review the proposal crafted at the 11th hour by County Mayor Peter Corroon.

Sant says Real owner Dave Checketts still intends to build a hotel, broadcast facility, housing, retail and restaurants to accompany his team's new stadium. The deal requires less money for the development from hotel taxes, which makes it more palatable to county officials. Salt Lake City has been promised it will get some of the leftover taxes for a downtown arts district.
