(KCPW News) In welcoming members of the American Legion to Utah today, Governor Jon Huntsman Junior paid tribute to a fallen son of the state. Marine Corporal Adam Galvez was killed days ago by an IED in Iraq. Huntsman told the room of war veterans about his conversation with Galvez' father:"I tried to console him as best I could by saying that many will be better because of his life," says Huntsman. "And he said to me, before he started crying, 'You know, he died a hero and that's all I need to know as a father. That he died a hero believing in his cause.'"
Huntsman will speak at Galvez' funeral Wednesday, where he will offer condolences on behalf of the thousands of veterans in Utah this week for the American Legion Convention.
Hunstman was joined by all of Utah's congressional delegation and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon in speaking to legionnaires at the convention's opening meeting today. Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson was not invited to speak or attend the convention because of his participation in anti-Bush protests.
