Businesses Pressure Delta for Nonstop Flight to Europe

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) The prospect of a nonstop flight to Europe is so enticing to Salt Lake Area businesses, they've begun a letter-writing campaign to convince Delta Airlines it's worth the risk.

"We have a high percentage of our population that speak a foreign language, have lived overseas, and a large portion of our businesses that engage in internationl trade," says Natalie Gochnour, vice president of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. "So it's a natural for us to seek a direct connection to Europe and we're hopeful we can be persuasive in that regard."

Gochnour says international trade contributes more than six billion dollars to the Utah economy each year. The Chamber is calling on its several thousand business members to send letters to the CEO of Delta Airlines. The company, which has a hub in Salt Lake City, is considering starting its first nonstop flight - likely to Paris - from Utah next summer.
