4th Seat Stalls in Congress

No Vote Before Election, Special Session Required

(KCPW News) Congress will not consider a bill to give Utah a fourth seat until after the November election. That's according to Congressman Chris Cannon, who sits on the Judiciary Committee where the measure is stalled.

Instead, he says the chair of the committee is demanding that Utah officials present a final map of boundaries for the proposed district changes. That would require the Utah legislature to hold a special session in the next month.

Governor Huntsman has already released one redistricting proposal and says he will only support changes that are fair to incumbents including Democrat Jim Matheson. If Huntsman and the Utah Legislature can agree on a map, Cannon says Congress is likely to consider the bill during a lame-duck session later in November.
