LDS Church Unveils Shops, Housing, Office Plans
(KCPW News) The City Creek Center will rise from the skeleton of Salt Lake's downtown by 2011. Details of the immense LDS Church development were released last night at a meeting of the Salt Lake City Council. KCPW's Julie Rose has more:
Over the next five years, the LDS Church will transform the nearly vacant Zions and Crossroads malls into the City Creek Center. It will include Macy's, Nordstrom and a covered corridor of upscale shops.
City Creek will run through the two-block development, bordered by green space and walkways. The Church will build 5600 underground parking stalls and 700 new apartments and condos.
Five office tours will round out the development and a Harmon's Grocery store on a neighboring block. Demolition on the mall blocks will begin in November and the entire development will be complete by 2011.

It will be great to finally have a modern supermarket downtown (I realize that's a very small piece of the project) and I'm glad that Harmon's will be the company operating it.
