Stadium Deal Up in Air, Pending Financial Review

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Within 30 days, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon hopes to have a full review of Real Salt Lake's finances. Until then, he says there's still not enough information to approve the stadium deal.

"I think it's time to either get this thing moving forward, or not," says Corroon. "Right now things are positive and moving forward, but we don't have all the information we feel we need to make a final decision."

Corroon says not approving the stadium is still an option, until the team's finances are all out in the open. That information should come to light in a financial review by a county-hired private consultant. Despite previous difficulty getting detailed information about the team's bottom line, Corroon says Real is committed to cooperating.

The soccer team is eager to begin construction at the Sandy site with plans to kick off their 2008 season in the new stadium.
