"Hastert Needn't Resign"
(KCPW News) The sex scandal involving Congressman Mark Foley is quote "pathetic" but should not affect mid-term elections for Republicans next month, according to Utah Senator Orrin Hatch. The Utah Senator co-sponsored a sex-offender measure with Foley earlier this year and notes that Foley may now be the first convicted under the new law.
But Hatch calls Foley's actions those of a single individual - for which other Republicans should not be held responsible. He also says House Speaker Dennis Hastert should not resign. But anyone who knew about the behavior and did nothing, should be condemned.
The House Ethics Committee has launched an investigation into the scandal and established an anonymous tip line for other concerns with the page program.
