Seniors Urged to Reconsider Medicare Drug Coverage
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) Seniors who tackled the Medicare Part D enrollment process in the Spring may not be off the hook, yet. Enrollment reopens on November 15th, and prescription drug coverage plans have already changed so much that many seniors will have to switch:"The reality is that if they're in the right plan they can save money," says Peter Hebertson of Salt Lake County Aging Services. "That doesn't mean that plan's going to be the same plan every year though."
Hebertson says plans are free to change their premiums and drug lists. So, he encourages Medicare enrollees to get used to the idea of shopping for a new plan every year. In particular, some seniors with lots of prescriptions could fall into a gap where the wrong plan will leave them covering one-hundred percent of their drug costs. Hebertson adds that seniors who failed to enroll in the drug coverage plan in the spring should do so now to avoid further penalties.
