Utah 'Blackhole' for Dyslexics

Educator Scholarships Available
(KCPW News) October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, which is doubly important in a state known as a blackhole for dyslexics. Dr. Kathleen Brown, director of the University of Utah Reading Clinic, says Utah has earned that label because of our lack of dyslexia preparation for educators:"Working with the Eccles Foundation we're sponsorsing scholarships for educators from all over the state to receive clinical practicum training in how to provide intervention for dyslexic kids. It's a start, it's slow, it's small, but it's high quality, and I hope over time we can really make some inroads."
Brown says the educator scholarships cover all but a fraction of the $3,500 cost of one year of training. For details on those scholarships, call the U of U Reading Clinic at (801) 265-3951. The entire interview with Brown can be found on our Midday Metro webpage, along with links to the reading clinic.
