U.S. Hits 300-Million Milestone

(KCPW News) Early this morning, the U.S. Census Bureau clocked the country's population at 300-million. The milestone resonates here in Utah where U of U economist Pam Perlich says immigrants - many of them Hispanic - account for nearly a quarter of population growth.

Though Utah's population growth rate is faster than the national average, Perlich says it's relatively flat compared to the nearly exponential increase in residents in Arizona and Nevada. In the coming decades, the biggest change to Utah's population will be a shift toward large numbers of senior citizens and school-age children.
