(KCPW News) Another leader in the Utah Legislature is joining the ranks of the Governor's Office of Economic Development. Assistant Majority Whip Beverly Evans of Roosevelt has resigned her post to handle rural affairs under the direction of Jason Perry in the Office of Economic Development:"We need someone who understands the specific needs of rural Utah," says Perry. "She'll have a lot of windshield time, travelling to those rural locations, meeting with local officials and providing the assistance we should be for rural Utah."
Evans will leave her Senate seat vacant as of November 1st. She had already decided not to run for re-election. Republican Party officials are likely to wait until the November election and then appoint the race winner to fill Evan's seat through the first of the year.
Just weeks ago, House Majority Leader Jeff Alexander announced he, too, would step down to become an advisor in the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
