Health Insurance Help for Working Poor

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Families unable to afford the premiums for health insurance through their employer can now get a state subsidy to make up the difference. Utah's Premium Partnership is a new program of the Utah Department of Health under which a working family of five could receive a stipend of 600 dollars a month to help pay the premiums for health insurance offered through their employer.

The State Legislature this year appropriated enough money to cover one-thousand of the approximately 300-thousand uninsured Utahns. In order to qualify, individuals must not currently have health insurance, but be able to enroll in an employer's plan. Information is online at www.health.utah.gov/upp.
