Downtown Demolition to Begin Monday

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) The rooms are empty, the furniture has been sold and all that's left is to tear down the Inn at Temple Square. And that's precisely what the LDS Church has in store.

"They've all along been hoping to start demolition on the 13th of November (next Monday) and it's going to be awfully close to that if not exactly on that date," says Downtown Construction Ombudsman Bill Knowles.

Yesterday, Salt Lake City issued the initial permit to put barricades along the sidewalk and being demolition. Knowles says a pedestrian walkway will maintain access on South Temple. The sidewalk on West Temple will be closed about half way up the block.

Phase One demolition to make room for the LDS Church's massive new City Creek Center should last through the end of the year. The entire project will take at least five years to complete.
