Clerk Predicts 50 Percent of Voters Will Show at Polls
(KCPW 11/07/06) As of 3 p.m. this afternoon, voter turnout in Salt Lake County had increased to an estimated 19 percent. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says she expects turnout to go much higher by the time polls close:"Not factored into that is more than 30,000 people that have voted early. So based on this formula that we have used in the past, if it works, and it's just a guesstimate, it looks like we might hit around 50 percent."
That's only 2 percent less than turnout during the mid-term elections of 2002, Swensen notes. Polls close at 8 p.m.
