Several Close Races Still in Flux
(KCPW News) The Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives is in such a tight race that he could find himself in a recount. Republican Representative Greg Curtis has a slim 46 vote lead over Democrat Jay Seegmiller. If by November 21st - when all the provisional and late absentee ballots are tallied - that margin remains the same or shrinks at all, Seegmiller could - and plans to demand a recount."If the results of the canvass are within one vote per precinct, he can call for a recount," says County Clerk Sherrie Swensen.
There are 47 precincts in House District 49 - the race in which Seegmiller and Curtis are running. Other races that could qualify for a recount include House District 22 where incumbent Carl Duckworth and Republican Deena Ely are within 25 votes; and Salt Lake County Auditor, in which Republican incumbent Sean Thomas leads Democrat Jeff Hatch by a slim margin.
