Legislative Leadership Elections Set for 5 p.m.

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Republicans in the State Senate and House of Representatives will meet today at five behind closed doors to elect their leadership for the 2007 General Session. In the House, Speaker Greg Curtis is likely to be re-elected to the top leadership spot, despite an anticipated re-count in his race for Legislature.

Speaker's Chief of Staff Chris Bleak says lawmakers aren't worried about the recount, but will make adjustments later if Curtis loses his lead. Bleak says no one is challenging Curtis for the Speaker's Seat, though several lawmakers hope for the number two spot as House Majority Leader replacing Jeff Alexander. In the Senate, President Jon Valentine is expected to face a challenge from fellow Republican Michael Waddoups.
