Utah AG Receives Top Honor in Mexico

(KCPW News) Attorney General Mark Shurtleff joins the ranks of Cesar Chavez, Henry Cisneros and former Texas Governor Ann Richards as the latest recipient of the Order of the Aztec Eagle."I got goosebumps and was overwhelmed by how big of an honor it is. I don't know if I'm worthy," says Shurtleff. "All I can do is honor the award and hopefully it will be a motivation to do more."
The Aztec Eagle is the highest decoration that can be awarded to a non-Mexican. Shurtleff was chosen by Mexican President Vicente Fox after the two met during his visit to Utah earlier this year. Fox was impressed with the warm reception Shurtleff was giving by the Hispanic community at a rally in West Valley during the presidential visit.
Shurtleff is fluent in Spanish and has lately become an advocate for what he calls "compassionate" immigration reform.
