Disability Waiting List Shrinks

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) In one year, the Division of Services for People with Disabilities has shortened its waiting list by 100 people. Still, 1,800 remain on the list, anxious for training and employment services.

But Department Human Services director Lisa-Michele Church says requests for quote "fully-fund" the list could be misleading.

Advocates say $8.5 million dollars could do the trick, but Church reminds lawmakers that people with disabilities tend to deteriorate naturally and need additional services. The costs, she says, could be well beyond the eight million dollars.

Lawmakers allocated two-million to reducing the waiting list in the current year's budget.
