Lawmakers Further Delay Transportation Spending from Tax Hike

(KCPW News) When voters approved a sales tax hike for transportation last week, they did so without knowing which projects the money would fund. That's because the State Legislature dragged its feet approving the priority process developed by local governments. And yesterday, they delayed even further."I think what we're looking for is a very detailed manual that outlines the definitions, the criteria, etcetera," says Senate Majority Leader Curt Bramble.
During a meeting of the Legislature's Executive Appropriations Committee, Bramble led an effort to send the County Association of Governments back to the drafting table for more detail to support their decisions.
Though the requirement is not outlined in the original legislation, lawmakers now want local governments to give a more clear explanation of how they decide which TRAX, commuter rail and road projects should get first priority.
