(KCPW News) Lawmakers are considering upping the cost of a driver licenses by 5 dollars to compensate for budget shortfalls in the Driver License Division. Director Nanette Rolfe says the infusion of cash will let her hire more staff and reduce lines in division offices."The wait is average 2 to 3 hours right now," says Rolfe.
Rolfe says the Driver License Division could be facing a million dollar shortage. With additional funding, she hopes to add facial recognition software to division computers and transition to using biometric identification for driver licensing. The fee increase would boost the cost for an average driver license to 25 dollars.
