Some Election Outcomes Still Uncertain

(KCPW News) Eleven-thousand ballots hang in the balance in Salt Lake County - leaving the outcome of several races from the recent election still up in the air. County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says her staff are still validating some eight-thousand provisional and three-thousand absentee ballots."It's not as large as it was in 2004, but it's a large number for this off-year election, definitely," says Swensen.
Swensen says the high numbers may be a result of the transition to electronic voting machines, with greater awareness among voters that provisional paper ballots are an option if they have moved or failed to bring the correct identification. The Salt Lake County Council will meet on Monday to begin approving those ballots for inclusion in the election results. At which point, several races including Salt Lake County Auditor and a number of legislative seats could change hands or be close enough for a recount.
