Recounts Requested in Squeaker House Races

Questions on Deadlines Now Moot

(KCPW News) - The losing candidates in two squeaker state house races officially requested recounts today.
Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says candidates have seven days from the date of the official ballot canvass to request a recount. Some concern about whether this year's deadline is today or tomorrow was resolved when the last two recount requests were filed today.Democrat Laura Black is seeking a recount in her 18-vote loss to Republican incumbent Mark Walker for the House District 45 seat. Democrat Jay Seegmiller also wants a recount in his 19-vote District 49 loss to Republican House Speaker Greg Curtis. In another close race, Lynette Phillips has requested a recount in her 12-vote loss to Tracy Cowdell for Jordan School Board seat No. 6.
