North Salt Lake Waives Utility Fees for Military Families

City Council Renews Program Started After 9-11 Attacks

(KCPW News) The North Salt Lake City Council has reauthorized a program to waive city utility bills for the families of active military members.

Brian Passey is the city's finance director. He says the city council instituted the waivers after the nine-eleven attacks. He says that military salaries generally don't completely replace private sector incomes, so the council wanted to help these families out.

He says that although only a handful of military families have applied for the waivers, he thinks the program is worthwhile. He says the fees are waived up to 100 percent of the city's water and trash fees.

Families of all active duty military living in North Salt Lake City are eligible to apply for the utility waiver program.
