Fallen Marine Likely to Get Street Named in His Honor

(KCPW News) The first soldier from Salt Lake City to die in the Iraq War could soon have a street named in his honor. A scout troop hoping to rename a portion of 300 South after fallen Marine Corporal Adam Galvez is expecting approval from the Salt Lake City Council tonight.Scoutmaster Michael Clara credits an email campaign of public support for convincing the council to approve the name change, rather than postpone it to clarify its street name policies.
Every resident of the street and the community council support the change unanimously. The scouts from Salt Lake's west side want to rename 300 South between I-15 and Redwood Road, where Galvez played Little League as a boy. Clara says delaying the change would have been disingenuous, given the ease with which city officials supported naming part of 1st South in downtown Salt Lake City after Utah Jazz Player Karl Malone last year.
