Huntsman Tries Again on All-Day K

(KCPW News) All-day kindergarten again tops the Governor's education priorities for the coming year. Spokesman Mike Mower says it's even the first thing Governor Jon Huntsman Junior will cover in his upcoming State of the State Address.

Huntsman believes optional "all-day K" will help struggling students in low-income areas perform better and address the needs of those who speak limited English.

The Utah Office of Education is backing the plan, too. Superintendent Patti Harrington has asked lawmakers for seven and a half million dollars, which she says will be enough to offer optional all-day kindergarten in about 12-percent of Utah's schools.
