University Status Will Bring University Prices to UVSC Students

(KCPW News) Once Utah Valley State College gets university status, students can expect to pay higher tuition:"Yes, it will go up, as you might expect," says UVSC Spokesperson Chris Taylor. "But our main goal is to make sure that this notion of university status is not funded by the students."
UVSC spokesman Chris Taylor says the school is asking state lawmakers for 10-million dollars to help cover the cost of the transition to a full-fledged university. Raising that money and completing a campus library in July 2008 are the final stipulations made by the State Board of Regents. Taylor says it's up to the Higher Education Commission and the State Legislature to decide when UVSC becomes a university. They get to choose the new school name, too, but Taylor says school staff have a few ideas:
"An unscientific survey around the office shows a split down the middle between UVSU and UVU," says Taylor.
UVSC has been working toward its university status since 2005.
