Federal Immigration Agents Raid Utah Meat Packing Plant

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Immigration officials raided a beef processing plant in Cache County this morning as part of a six-state investigation into identity theft. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Marc Raimondi says workers at Swift meatpacking plants are suspected of using stolen Social Security numbers to get jobs.

"Today's enforcement action was a well-coordinated effort of more than a thousand ICE agents and officers," says Raimondi. "The timing was based solely on the investigative efforts stating that this was the right time and place."

Reuters reports that operations at six Swift meatpacking plants were temporarily suspended after today's raid, but no civil or criminal charges have been filed against the company or its employees.

It is about time the Feds starting getting serious regarding identity theft by illegal aliens. It should be a felony with no chance of ever getting citizenship or re-entry into the country. The companies that knowingly hire these people should be fined so heavily that it hurts their bottom line.

It doesn't make sense to basically allow illegal immigration to the extent that millions live and work here illegally. Then to make token arrests once in a while. It is not fair to those arrested. The law doesn't treat all equally. Why do they pick on one company and leave thousands of other companies operating illegally? If open borders is the unofficial law of the land then the laws should be changed to reflect this.
