Housing A Struggle for Utah's Poor

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) A Utah family needs to earn at least 13 dollars an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment, according to new data from the Utah Housing Coalition. With the estimated average wage hovering closer to 10 dollars, a full third of Utahns are in some kind of housing crisis.

Low-income advocate Tim Funk blames the problem on both rising rents and lagging wages, and says it's getting "harder to be poor in Utah." The Utah Housing Coalition is calling on the state to raise the minimum wage, remove the remaining sales tax on food and build more affordable housing.
