Airport Line to Be Built Regardless of County Funds
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) The Airport TRAX line did not make the list of projects that will be funded by the voter-approved sales tax increase in Salt Lake County. Mainly, that's because it doesn't do enough to reduce congestion. As Mike Jerman of the Utah Taxpayers Association points out, there isn't much road traffic at the airport and most employees at Salt Lake International commute during off-peak hours. Jerman says that makes the airport line a bad investment for tax dollars. Residents and business on North Temple say they need the light rail extension to be tied into the rest of the county's transit system.
The Utah Transit Authority says it will build the airport TRAX spur in the next decade, even without money from the county's sales tax increase.
