Utah Sets Date for Public Hearings on Divine Strake

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) The Utah Department of Environmental Quality will hold two public hearings on the proposed Divine Strake explosive test. They will be held on January 18th in St. George and January 24th at the Utah State Capitol.

Governor Jon Huntsman Junior decided to hold the hearings after overwhelming requests from Utahns upset that federal public meetings will not allow public comment. The Governor will submit a transcript of the Utah hearings with his own letter opposing the Divine Strake experiment to federal authorities.

1. Colonel (Ret) Mike Dunn said:

Underground testing is absolutely necessary to ensure correct knowledge and use of the weapon. Chances of any harmful material being released into the atmosphere are zero despite activist alarms.

2. Tyler West said:

Colonel Dunn, with all due respect sir, you need to get your facts straight. The Environmental Impact Study concluded that "Since suspended natural radionuclides and resuspended fallout radionuclides from the detonation have potential to be transported off of the NTS by wind, they may contribute radiological dose to the public." To say that there is "zero" risk is nonsense.
