(KCPW News) The Utah Department of Transportation is pleased with the results of a recent Legislative audit that shows UDOT uses sound business practices in state road projects.Carlos Braceras, UDOT's Deputy Director, says the genesis of the audit was to find out why local projects tend to be cheaper than state projects. Braceras says state roads carry the majority of traffic and UDOT uses more expensive and higher quality products to maintain them, but they last longer. He says the audit also recognized the differences between the traffic carried by state and local roads.
Braceras also said UDOT is pleased with Governor Jon Huntsman Junior's proposed transportation budget, calling it quote "an amazing step forward for transportation." The budget calls for $110 million dollars in one time money and another $70 million in continuing funds to be used for corridor preservation, easing congestion, and updating bridges.
