2007 County Motto: 'Planning, Not Politics'

Corroon Picks 5 Priorities for Next 12 Months

(KCPW News) Sticking with what's worked for him since taking office two years ago, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says "planning, not politics" will be the county's motto in 2007. In his State of the County address this morning, Corroon said quote "Salt Lake County is not the place for backroom deals and special interests." He tells KCPW that statement does not necessarily refer to the ongoing discussions with major league soccer franchise ReAL Salt Lake and its pursuit of taxpayer dollars for a stadium:

"That may be one incident, but there's other incidents as well where people want to do things either in a hurried fashion or without looking at all the facts. We're not going to do that," Corroon said, "we're going to do the right thing for the right reasons, we're going to look at all the facts and make sure we're protecting the citizens' interests."

For the coming year, Corroon has laid out five priority areas: quality government, economic development, natural environment, quality of life, and public safety. He says all are important:

"We're just trying to run a good government, and as I said in my speech, when I'm dead and gone and out of county government that the government will be in a good stead because of what we did and all the measures we put in place."
