More Outdoor Retailers Make Utah Home

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) More than 1,300 new outdoor retail jobs are about to be created in Utah. The Economic Development Corporation of Utah announced today the expansion of Backcountry.com and the relocation of Peregrine Outfitters and Smith Sport Optics to Utah. The companies are expected to generate more than $6.5 million in new capital investment.

Backcountry.com is already based in the state, but is investing nearly $5 million to expand its operations in Park City and West Valley. They expect to generate more than 1,200 new jobs, mostly in engineering and on-line marketing.

Jeff Edwards, President and CEO of the EDCU, says Utah is attractive to companies because they receive a state tax credit for creating new jobs in the state.
