Lawmakers Back Abortion Ban in Utah

(KCPW News) Immigration issues, tax cuts, school vouchers - those heated issues pale in comparison to the challenge lawmakers bit off late yesterday. Abortion takes center stage at the State Capitol with a bold surprise from conservatives. KCPW's Julie Rose reports:

Abortion is now set to overshadow all other issues being debated at the Utah Legislature. Late yesterday, a House committee made a bold move to advance an outright ban on abortion except in a few cases. That ban directly challenges the U.S. Supreme Court ruling of Roe versus Wade.

Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says it will absolutely land Utah in court at the expense of at least a million dollars. Conservative lawmakers say they are prepared to spend the money for the sake of defending quote "family values" and challenging the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that abortion is a woman's right.
