Low-Income Households Not Receiving Legal Aid
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) According to a study released today, more than 80 thousand low-income households in Utah did not receive the civil legal aid they needed last year.Stewart Ralphs, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake City, says the "And Justice For All" study looked at 16 demographic groups across Utah. He says the largest area of need is in the area of family law, covering divorce, custody, and domestic assault. Many attorneys in Utah are available on a pro-bono or reduced fee basis, but attorneys that specialize in the areas of need are scarce.
Ralphs says most people are unaware of the legal aid programs available to them.
