Eliminating the Need for a Second Kitchen

Selling Homemade Eats Could Get a Little Easier
(KCPW News) The law says that if you want to sell your homemade goodies, you have to build a whole new kitchen to produce them. Janie Wilkinson, a mother from Centerville, says that isn't fair:"This requirement of second kitchens in homes...it has really shackled a lot of us...me personally. My friend Lisa needs this, and many people like her need this for financial means."
Republican Representative Roger Barrus is sponsoring a bill that would eliminate the need for a second kitchen. Under the measure, people are only allowed to sell non-hazardous foods that would have a long shelf life:
"These are breads, cookies, candies, certain preserves such as jellies, items that could be canned or bottled..."
Barrus also says that in order to cook food for sale outside the home, one must obtain a food handler's permit and abide by the sanitation guidelines of the Department of Agriculture. His bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
