Unanimous Vote for Record Tax Cut

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) The largest tax cut in the Utah's history passed the State Legislature unanimously. Such accord is stunning, given previous years of strife over tax reform. But Senator Curt Bramble says those long years of debate are precisely why this year's plan had such strong support. He says lawmakers had plenty of time to study and critique each component of the cut - and to reach a compromise.

The 220-million dollar cut is also the most comprehensive tax reform Utah has seen since the 1970s. And it's so complicated that State Senators are asking the Governor to call a special session later this year to deal with some clean up. But members of the House would prefer to work avoid a special session and, instead, do the clean-up during the next General Session. The system includes a lower, single-rate on the individual income tax, a reduction in both the general sales tax and the sales tax on food, and a handful of cuts for businesses.
