Electric Car Dealership Opens In Salt Lake City

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Electric cars are legal in Utah and a new dealership is now open to take advantage of that. Today marked the grand opening of the Neighborhood Electric Vehicle store in Salt Lake City.

Electric cars cost an average of seven thousand dollars for a two-seater and about ten thousand dollars for a four-seat car. The cars will hold their charge for about 40 miles and the average cost is only one cent per mile.

Steve Osborn, owner of the NEV Store, says the vehicles are best suited for planned communities and for warm weather. He says the Avenues and Daybreak are good examples of prime electric car territory in the Salt Lake Valley.

Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson was on hand for the grand opening to show his support for the use of electric cars.

The NEV Store is located on the corner of 900 South and West Temple in Salt Lake City.

These "NEV" road legal golf carts are electric vehicles in the broadest sense of the word. While the world is terribly polluted and running out of oil, these things make the option of clean, green EV's look like a joke.Get serious NEV, make a proper electric car. There's no excuse, the technology and market is there waiting.

This is great, although I wish it could go farther than about 40 miles between charges. Even so, if we're using wind power to generate the electricity, we aren't throwing any of those nasty particulates into the air.

Those are hardly electric cars. A car is something regarded to acheive highway speed. That... THING is more like an electric buggy.

Finally I can buy an NEV EV!Unbelievable how long it's taken.Coincidently, the NEV is planned to hitKlondike for the 2007 EV rally.
