Citizen Groups Oppose Mountain View Corridor

(KCPW News) The population along the Wasatch Front is expected to grow by nearly 60 percent over the next two decades. With that growth comes more drivers on the road. The Utah Department of Transportation wants to accommodate that growth with more highways. The Mountain View Corridor, a highway that would run along 5800 West, is UDOT's preferred alternative.Roger Borgenicht of Utahns for Better Transportation says there are better options. He recommends adding more convenient mass transit or forming communities with better jobs-housing balances. He points to Kennecott's Daybreak development as an example of this thinking.
Borgenicht says if the Mountain View Corridor is built as planned by UDOT, the only mass transit option in that area will be buses on the highway. He says studies show that with the increase in population and the subsequent automobile use, congestion will be worse than it is today unless more mass transit options are part of the plan.
