Bus Route Hearing Draws Hundreds

(KCPW News) Major changes to the Utah Transit Authority bus system are stirring emotions among riders. KCPW's Julie Rose reports:Hundreds of anxious bus riders attended a public hearing at the Salt Lake Main Library yesterday to voice their concerns about proposed route changes. Many did not own cars or rely on public transit because of physical limitations. They worry they will have to walk further to catch the bus or take a longer circuit to work and school.
But UTA spokesman Justin Jones says the agency hopes not to inconvenience those riders too dramatically. He says some may have to walk a bit further, but won't have to wait as long for a bus to come. This is the largest proposed redesign of bus routes in UTA history, and Jones says it's necessary to halt a steady decline in bus ridership over the last decade.
Six more public hearings are schedule for various Salt Lake County locations. Click here to find dates and locations.
