The Billion Dollar Election

None by Bryan Schott

2006 Election Was Expensive. 2008 Could Cost More.

(KCPW News)  National, State and Local Republican and Democratic parties spent more than one billion dollars combined in the 2006 Congressional elections. That staggering number is a little easier to digest once you break it down according to Todd Taylor, Executive Director of the Utah Democratic Party, who says it amounts to about one million dollar per congressional race for each side.

The 2008 election figures to be even more costly as the Presidential race is at the top of the ticket. In fact, some experts estimate the Presidential candidates in the major parties will each spend half a billion dollars in their bid for the White House. Taylor says that just underscores the fact that without money, it's hard for candidates to get their message out.
