Local Businesses to Get Growth Incentives from State

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) The Governor's first Economic Summit two years ago drew about 200 entrepreneurs to a Park City conference center. Yesterday nearly a thousand gathered for the second summit to hear Governor Huntsman sum up the state of the economy. He says his economic development campaign promises are on track, based on the state's booming tourism, low unemployment and new state funding for his pet projects. Now he's ready to focus on local businesses:

"That's where the job growth is really going to take place," says Huntsmans. "It's the local entrepreneurs who are taking the risk here in our state, expanding person by person. So we've developed a strategy to extend financial incentives to local businesses who are considering major expansions here in the state - just like we would do for somebody coming in from the outside."

The Governor's Office of Economic Development will soon begin offering grants of one thousand dollars for companies with at least two employees in rural communities. The grants are intended to help those small businesses add jobs that pay more than the area's median wage. Huntsman says making health insurance more affordable for those small businesses is another of his priorities.
