Forum on West Bench Development Tonight

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Local green groups are hoping to train environmental studies students at Westminster College to dialogue openly with Kennecott Land and other major developers in Salt Lake's west bench development.

Kerry Case, coordinator for the Westminster Environmental Center, says such dialogue is hard to come by. But she adds it will be critical for budding environmentalists to develop those skills in the coming decade as developers plan massive communities and road projects along Salt Lake County's western edge.

Westminster and Save Our Canyons will host a forum tonight on the topic, featuring representatives from UDOT, Kennecott Land, Salt Lake County government, the Sierra Club, and Envision Utah. The forum begins at 7 p.m. in the Gore School of Business Auditorium at Westminster College and will be rebroadcast on KCPW.

I worked in the KCC Environmental Section 1971 - 1978. KCC used 100's of piezeometric wells to monitor the migration of the plume of contaminated water around the mine as a result of spraying the overburden with H2SO4 in an attempt to capture the leached minerals from the overburden dumps. If my knowledge of this subject is of interest, email me or call 232-8984. I would like to attend this evening's session.Kerry
