Matheson Says Impeachment Unlikely

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Impeachment has become a rally cry for Salt Lake City's Mayor and other like-minded Americans, but Democratic Congressman Jim Matheson says it's unlikely to happen:

"I don't think there's a single Democrat in Congress who's moving in that direction," says Matheson. "I don't think that's the type of effort we ought to be pursuing right now."

Instead of impeachment, Matheson says the Democrat-controlled Congress will take a very "aggressive and methodical" look at the executive branch:

"And I think that's something everyone ought to approve of regardless of what their party affiliation is, because the legislative branch is supposed to hold the executive branch accountable," says Matheson. "That hadn't been happening for a few years and now it's gonna happen."

Matheson says the wheels of increased oversight are only now moving into gear, starting with current investigation of U.S. Attorney firings.
